Do your research before you interview. You should be ready to answer the questions, “What do you know about our company and the position you’re applying for?” Your Monument Staffing team member will provide you with a link to the company’s web site and will share their personal insight on the firm.
Wear a business suit for all interviews. No-one ever was turned down for a job for being dressed too professionally.
Arrive five minutes early. Everyone knows not to be late…but studies show that arriving early can be almost as bad as it may cause the interviewer to rush through a previous meeting.
Fill out applications completely. Avoid writing, “see resume” and always be truthful when filling in your salary history.
Bring two to three fresh, unfolded copies of your resume and reference list in a file folder or large envelope.
Stand and introduce yourself professionally. Stay friendly and relaxed with everyone you meet, including the receptionist. First impressions are the lasting ones; studies show that company representatives often make hiring decisions in the first 15 seconds.
Go into detail every chance you get. “Yes” and “no” answers are not enough to get you the job. Have stories that illustrate your accomplishments ready to go for all situations.
Don't make negative remarks about present or former employers. When explaining your reasons for leaving, communicate your motives professionally. Please discuss this topic with your Monument Staffing team member.
Salary and benefits are very important…but not appropriate topics to bring up at the interview. Your Monument Staffing team member can guide you through this sensitive interview area.
Be prepared to ask questions during the interview that are based on your research of the company and industry. Avoid questions like, “what is a typical day like?”, and replace it with “what are the tasks that need the most attention or carry the highest priority?”
Follow up with a Thank You note, either hand-written on personal stationary, typed in a business format or emailed. Your Monument Staffing team member can review a rough draft of this note before you send out the final version.
